Theodore L. “Ted” Nicholas joined the firm in January 2006 in an "of counsel" capacity. For over eighteen years Mr. Nicholas has consulted clients on a wide variety of business regulatory, operational and litigation matters. He represents individuals, and local, regional and national businesses and business owners. Mr. Nicholas is dedicated to providing a wide variety of responsive and accessible personal, business and regulatory consulting services to a diversity of clients by making common sense, accountability and reasonable cost the cornerstone of his practice.

Mr. Nicholas began his legal and business career in 1987 when he started his law practice with a prominent Indianapolis Greek lawyer, Nicholas G. Ricos. His work with Mr. Ricos allowed him to gain invaluable experience, including the development of a hotel and diving business in the Cayman Islands; successfully defending a national pump manufacturer, Burks Pumps, from claims asserted in the U.S. District Court involving complex engineering principles and litigated through appeal to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals; representing a group of investors through multi-year litigation over the ownership and control of a closely held manufacturing business and its product designs; working with the affordable housing development and management activities of AHEPA 232 Apartments, AHEPA National Housing Corporation and AHEPA Management Company, Inc.; and consulting with a cadre of business owners, health care groups and real estate owners and developers.

His representation also involved analyzing stock purchase and merger transactions involving private and publicly traded insurance companies seeking regulatory approval for proposed transactions, including Form A as well as Disclaimers of Affiliation transactions.

In 1997, Mr. Nicholas joined a leading Indianapolis insurance defense firm (where he remained through 2005), during which time he was part of the management team and assumed a major role in a whole host of complex business and regulatory matters. His insurance regulatory experience includes regulation of MEWAs and Reciprocals, Guaranty Fund coverage issues, redomestication of foreign insurers to Indiana, agent licensing and insolvency issues. His representation also involved analyzing stock purchase and merger transactions involving private and publicly traded insurance companies seeking regulatory approval for the proposed transactions, as well as Disclaimers of Affiliation.

Mr. Nicholas has also represented private companies and individuals and successfully navigated complex regulatory issues before the Indiana Gaming Commission. These representations have involved financial transaction reporting issues, licensing suitability issues and negotiation of fines and penalties.

Mr. Nicholas has been actively involved with the Sertoma Club of East Indianapolis and the Camp Sertoma Foundation, Inc., which owns and operates a 30-acre multi-purpose camp on the east side of Indianapolis. He has held the offices of Secretary, President and Director. Mr. Nicholas uses his regulatory and nonprofit experiences to consult and represent churches and other nonprofit entities on the myriad of growth and administration issues facing those entities, including formation, governance, real estate acquisitions and litigation.

Mr. Nicholas graduated from Indiana University in 1981 with dual degrees in biology and chemistry. In 1986 he graduated from the Indiana University School of Business and Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis with MBA and JD degrees.
